I decided to do a word cloud involving a poetry book from one of my favorite authors. I own several of his poetry book collections and I just find that I connect with his words. I pick up these books when I am mentally and emotionally going through something and I am able to find solace in the words. I decided to use the book “Broken Flowers” because there are many pieces about personal growth in it. I chose the flower model for the word cloud to match the them of the book. Rather than finding the book online, I flipped through all 385 pages and found words that seemed the most powerful. This word cloud, to me, represents someone feeling some type of hurt and facing a mental struggle. It makes comparisons of people to earthly beings like the air, the sun, the moon, the ocean and gives an impression of being down the earth. I connect to it by realizing that I heal best with these natural wonders and having the understanding that the earth will take care of me if I open myself up to it. I wanted to focus on the pieces that showed self growth without an outside influence because I think that healing yourself is such an important moment in every life. I originally had a different font with what someone might describe as more ‘bubble letters’ but it did not match the emotions of this word cloud. I searched through and found this font which looks handwritten and realized that it would add to the feelings of personal growth and down to earth healing. It looks like someone sat down and make this on a piece of paper as a form of art therapy and that is the exact emotion I wanted to bring forward with my word cloud. I am happy I chose this project because it makes me wonder how something like this could actually be a healing moment to those that need it; I might try this again on paper or on canvas to use as a mental reminder while I personally go through my own moment in life lately.
